Mary L. Norton
Mary L. Norton, 82, of Lewistown, passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 19, 2026, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born on Aug. 4, 1943, in Lewistown, she was the beloved daughter of the late John A. and Marian (Snare) Tate. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Tate and her grandson, Matthew Nady.
Mary is lovingly survived by her husband, Harry G. Norton, whom she married on Jan. 4, 1967. Together they shared nearly 59 years of marriage filled with love and partnership. She also leaves behind her children: Bonnie Guidry, of Texas; Pamela Curry, of State College; Kim Sheaffer and her husband, Gary, of Lemoyne; and Harry “Scooter” Norton, Jr., of Lewistown. She was a proud grandmother to six grand children and a treasured great- grandmother to four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her twin sister, Myra Bannon, and her companion, Edward Leeper, of Reedsville.
Mary was a 1961 graduate of Lewistown High School. For many years, Mary and her husband shared the responsibility of managing Open Hearth Manor, with commitment, teamwork, and heartfelt care. She greatly enjoyed her time with her “girls’ card club,” where laughter, friendship, and spirited games of pinochle were always shared. Mary had a special love for summertime, finding her greatest joy in peaceful afternoons by the pool and cherished trips to the beach with those closest to her.
A viewing will be held from 11 a.m. until non on Friday, Jan. 23, 2026 at King-Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, followed by a brief celebration of Mary’s life, on Friday, Jan. 23, 2026.
Private burial will follow at Juniata Memorial Park.
