James A. ‘Jim’ ‘Pop’ Schnell
James A. “Jim” “Pop” Schnell, 84, of Milroy, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2025.
He was born on June 11, 1941, in Lock Haven, to the late Donald and Evelyn (Confer) Schnell. On March 7, 1963, he married Louise K. Schnell.
Along with his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Jodi L. Kibe and husband Shawn and a son, Jerry Schnell and wife Jane, all of Reedsville; five grandchildren: Alexis Henry and husband Brett, Braden and Trey Kibe, Allyssa and Brody Schnell; and a brother-in-law: Joe Meako of Albion, Pa.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Francie Meako.
He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Lock Haven University and earned his master’s degree from Penn State University. He was a teacher for a number of years. He then served as an assistant principal at Kishacoquillas High School, then a principal at Lewistown High School. Lastly, until his retirement in 1997, he was director of federal programs for Mifflin County School District. His family owned and operated a Christmas tree farm for more than 40 years.
Following retirement, he enjoyed working as a fishing guide, attending all of his grandchildren’s academic and athletic events, fishing and camping at Indian River, fly fishing, woodworking, traveling with his family, and attending the weekly meeting at the Main Street Bar. He and his wife had season tickets for Penn State Men’s Basketball games and enjoyed attending for more than 20 years.
He was a member of Trout Unlimited, Central PA Football Hall of Fame, District Six Athletic Committee, and Coffee Run Fishing Club.
His family will receive friends and a viewing will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2025, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Henderson-Bohn Funeral Home, 6880 SR 655, Reedsville. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family at Woodlawn Cemetery.
