Effie M. Hostetler

Effie M. Hostetler, 100, of Belleville, passed away on Monday, Nov. 17, 2025, at Valley View Haven Nursing Home.

She was born on Oc. 9, 1925 in Belleville, to the late David H. and Rebecca (Peachey) Byler. On Oct. 26, 1946, she married Lloyd M. Hostetler, who preceded her in death on April 5, 2016.

Surviving are children: Charlotte M. Clark of Williamsburg, Pa., Ralph M. Hostetler and wife, Mary, Rebecca E. Peachey and husband, Dennis, Paul T. Hostetler and wife, Mary Lou, Rhoda A. Carson and husband, Richard, all of Belleville, Nancy D. Yoder and husband, Jay A. of McAlevy’s Fort, and Rachel E. Groff and husband, John D. of Belleville; as well as 18 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren; one great-great-great granddaughter; Sisters: Elsie Byler, of Milroy, Sarah Bechler, of Harrisonburg, VA; and a sister-in-law, Esther Hostetler of Altamont, TN.

Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a stillborn son, Lloyd Gerald Hostetler, son-in-law, William E. Clark, as well as great-great granddaughter, Athena Mae Vogel; and sisters, Nancy Long and Cora Byler.

Effie was primarily a homemaker, but at one time was employed at Metz Hatchery and had done some babysitting at her home. She also helped her husband a great deal in the chicken houses at their home. She is a member of the Locust Grove Mennonite Church, where she taught Sunday school for a number of years. She and her husband were members of the Gideon’s International since 1976. They were also involved with Gospel Echoes Team, a prison ministries group, for over 30 years. Effie enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing, quilting, and putting puzzles together. In earlier years, she enjoyed baking pies and helping at the BMS school sale. She and her husband enjoyed visiting family and friends.

Family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025 at Maple Grove Mennonite Church, 115 Maple Grove Road, Belleville, PA, with a funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. with Ryan Hostetler and Dion Peachey officiating. A private burial will take place at Locust Grove Cemetery, Belleville.
