Kathleen R. Hartley

Kathleen R. Hartley, 79, of Lewistown, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2025, at William Penn Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center.

Born on Feb. 26, 1946, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Rachel (Kinsel) Rhodes.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Lamar Rhodes.

She is survived by her husband, Edward N. Hartley; children, Rebecca Baker and husband, Barney, of Lewistown, William Ritchey and wife, Chale’t, of McVeytown, Elena Gillott, and husband, Thomas, of Harrisburg, Nelson Hartley, of Granville, Gary Hartley and wife, Julie, of Reedsville, and Kathy Kohler and husband, John, Granville; grandchildren, Derek and wife, Angela, Cole and wife, Abbie, Addison, Emma, Zander, Laylah, Anthony, Carly, Tyler, Justin and wife, Stephanie, Blake and wife, Victoria, Brock, Jessica and husband, Jason, Megan and husband, Josh, Ryan and wife, Erin, Dustin, and Alicia and husband, Joe; nineteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Loren Rhodes and wife, Donna, of Huntingdon; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Kathleen was a proud graduate of Rothrock High School, Class of 1964. She continued her academic journey at Mansfield State University, graduating in 1968 with both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

She was a faithful member of Spring Run Church of the Brethren and formerly attended Pine Glen Church of the Brethren. She was active in several professional organizations, including the National Educators Association, Pennsylvania State Education Association, Association of Mifflin County Educators, Music Educators National Association, and Pennsylvania Music Educators Association.

From 1979 until her retirement in 2008, Kathleen dedicated her career to teaching music in the Mifflin County School District, where she was affectionately known as Mrs. Ritchey. She also taught private piano lessons, sharing her love of music with countless students.

Kathleen enjoyed traveling, quilting, cross-stitch, and gardening. These hobbies brought her much joy and fulfillment throughout her life.

A receiving of friends will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025, at Spring Run Church of the Brethren, with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m., with Pastors Craig and Kate Gandy officiating.
