Donald Lee Middlesworth
Donald Lee Middlesworth, 92, of Lewistown, passed away at 4:51 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2025, at home in the loving presence of his children and many of his grandchildren in Pleasant Acres. His wife, Mildred “Milly” Middlesworth, preceded him in death.
Born Dec. 3, 1932, in Lewistown, Don was a son of the late Max and Mary Middlesworth of Lewistown.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Robert, and sisters, Maxine Short and Mary Lou Richard.
Surviving are children, Linda Good and husband, Jim, of Descanso, Calif., Steven Middlesworth and wife, Susan, of Hershey, and Nancy Dundore and husband, David, of Cleona; six grandchildren, Jason Good and wife, Hannah, Alyssa Good, Lauren Middlesworth, Ian Middlesworth, Matt Dundore and wife, Heather, and Erin Dundore; and one great-grandson, Juniper Good.
Don graduated from Lewistown High School where he played soccer and ran on the track team. He grew up fishing with his buddies and learned to fly fish quite well. Following school, Don enlisted in the Navy during the Korean War where he was stationed on the USS Perry in the communications room. It was then that he was introduced to Morse Code, was responsible for a crew of 12, and played the trumpet in the band.
He graduated from Susquehanna University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Don married Milly Rheem from Burnham on June 6, 1959, and they built a loving home and family in Pleasant Acres.
Don became a ham radio operator, WS3K, after graduating from the university. He obtained an advanced amateur radio license and was an active member of the local ham radio community.
He retired after 31 years as an accountant for Standard Steel Corporation.
Don was an avid golfer at the Lost Creek Golf Course. Upon retirement, he took painting classes and enjoyed employing a variety of techniques in his work.
To keep busy during winter months, Don often repaired or compiled computers from scrap and would offer them to the community because he found it fulfilling.
He also enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden and playing board games with his family. His playful sense of humor led to many evenings of fun and laughter.
Don was a true Penn State Football fan and would talk to every family member before, during, and after each game. He looked forward to attending the Blue and White Game every April. If he had been coaching, the team would have won every game.
A private memorial gathering will be held at the convenience of the family.
Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan Street, Lewistown, Pa., is in charge of arrangements.
