Donald A. Laub

Donald A. Laub, 88, of Lewistown, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025 at his home.
He was a son of John W. Laub and Helen M. Heath Laub, born June 17, 1937 in Lewistown. He grew up assisting his Dad in the taxi business and married Mary Ann Smeltzer on Sept. 23, 1955. They recently celebrated 70 years of marriage. His dream was to have a large family and he was so very blessed in the fufillment of that. He had five children: Beth Ann Collins and husband, Scot, Wendy Mauery and husband, Scott, Brenda Stewart and husband, John, Jeff Laub and his wife, Lisa, and Mark Laub and wife, Robyn. There are 18 grandchildren: Jess Rearick, Brittaney Solt, Acacia Drochek, Alexis Love, Ariele Gordon, Alesia Thomas, Heidi McKnight, Craig Hunter, Tyler Hunter, J. Alex Laub, Katelyn Gomes, Kyle Laub, Allyson Laub, T-Jay Laub, Valerie King, Jason Laub, Abbie Laub and Christina Laub. He was also a grandfather to two foreign exchange students: A-Young No, from South Korea, and Pekka Neitola, from Finland. At this time, he has 25 great grandchildren, and a sister, Barbara Garbrick and husband Denny.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Laub.
Dad was a devoted member of Vira United Methodist Church. He served in so many needed roles: financial chair, trustee, administrative council, cemetery committee, Sunday school youth teacher and Bible school helper. When it came to the church, he always stepped up. He was also a member of the Lewistown Masonic Lodge No. 203
Dad fought a valiant battle with heart challenges for thirty years; that was amazing in itself. He was a true patriarch and presided over many long discussions/debates at the dinner table. We all knew his beliefs and morals and that was a profound influence on his family and anyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025 at Vira United Methodist Church, 111 Long Ln, Lewistown, PA 17044, with Pastors Josh Randolph and Luke Shinskie officiating.
Arrangements have been entrusted to King-Barr Funeral Home LLC, 120 Logan Street, Lewistown.
