William D. Morgan

Son of the late William C. and Olive Briner Morgan, of McClure, he was predeceased by brother, Jack and sisters, Lavinia, Grace, and Judy.

Bud, as he was lovingly known, graduated from McClure High School, where he was a standout athlete for the baseball, basketball, and soccer teams. His passion for teamwork and leadership on the field would be a recurring theme throughout his life.

After high school, Bud honorably served his country in the Army and the Army Reserves. His love for his country was only matched by his love and commitment to his family including his beloved wife of 65 years, Patricia (Hetrick), and their two sons, Jon (Patty) Cicero, N.Y. and Mark (Krista) Forest Hill, Md. Bud was also a proud grandfather to Sean (Becky), Seattle, Wash., Ryan, (Aberdeen, Md.), Maggie, (New York, N.Y.), and Brandon (Baltimore, Md.). More recently, he cherished the joy of becoming a great-grandfather to young Arthur Bud. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Carole Morgan and numerous nieces and nephews.

Professionally, Bud dedicated 37 years to HRB Singer/Raytheon Systems as an Electronics Technician/Engineer, where his expertise and work ethic were highly valued. Through his work Bud traveled around the world and experienced places he most likely would not have visited. Not one to sit still–on weekends, Bud could be found with a paintbrush in hand, painting houses, with the same pride and precision as his technical career.

Bud was an active and devoted member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Boalsburg, serving on Council and holding multiple leadership positions through the years. His involvement and leadership roles in the Harris Township Lions Club further showcased his commitment to community service.

Bud found peace and great pleasure outdoors, through gardening, hunting, or just simply being in nature–on a lake or in the woods. His hands were rarely idle, as he was also an adept handyman who could fix almost anything–a skill he passed down to his sons and grandchildren.

Bud was a dedicated Penn State athletics supporter and even traveled to see the Nittany Lions win the National Championship in 1982. Bud enjoyed spending time tailgating with friends and family before home football games. He and Pat were also avid fans of the Lady Lions Basketball team.

Those who knew Bud would describe him as friendly and selfless, always putting others before himself. As a youth recreational soccer and baseball coach, he mentored countless young lives, imparting not only the skills of the game but also the values of teamwork and sportsmanship.

Bud’s legacy is one of love, service, and faith. His warm smile and generous spirit will be remembered, but profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though we mourn his passing, we also celebrate his life–a life that was lived with purpose and grace, a life that reflected his unwavering faith.

Family and friends are welcome Monday, Sept. 29, from 4 to 6 p.m., at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College. The funeral service will immediately follow, officiated by Pastor Brent Book.

Interment will be in the Boalsburg Cemetery Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 11 a.m.

The family wishes to acknowledge and is eternally grateful for the compassionate and loving care provided by so many at the Juniper Village Wellspring Memory Care and Brookline Skilled Nursing Facilities, with additional support from the Grane Hospice staff.
