Shirley A. Dumm
Shirley A. Dumm, 87, of Lewistown, received her well-deserved angel wings on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2025.
Born May 25, 1938 in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late John L. Botteicher and Alice Virginia “Bunny” (Miller) Botteicher.
Shirley’s legacy will live on through her children, Debra Lee Pennington and Richard L. “Rick” Dumm, Jr. and wife, Tonya; her three beloved granddaughters, Alison LeAnn Goss and husband, Matthew, Rayna Lee Pennington, and Brooke Ann Peters and husband, Trey; and five amazing great-grandchildren, Tucker, Brodie, Abigail, Thomas, and Emma. She is also survived by three sisters, Mary Elizabeth “Liz” Walker, Jacqueline Virginia “Jackie” Eckert, and Nancy Jean Wickenheiser; as well as, numerous, nieces, nephews, and wonderful life-long friends.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle Lynn Dumm on July 18, 1972; four siblings, Betty Jane “Janie” Wagner, Donald L. “Sonny” Fultz, Delores Mae “Doris” Glant, Donna Mae Robinson, and Sandra Kay Deckard; and her son-in-law, Thomas D. Pennington.
Shirley attended Mifflin and Juniata County schools and received her G.E.D., alongside her daughter, in 1982.
Primary a homemaker, she had been employed, as a custodian, at the former Echo Laboratories, Reedsville. A job she was very proud of.
Shirley had a passion for the arts including writing poetry, drawing, painting, and singing. She enjoyed journaling, watching the seasons change, celebrating the holidays, and watching Hallmark movies. She also had a strong Christian faith and a close connection to God. Above all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters and great-grandchildren, who will always remember her for her kind soul and generosity. Her death has created a void that will never truly be filled; she will be forever missed by those who loved her. May she rest in eternal peace.
Public visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the hour of service on Monday, Sept. 15, 2025, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, PA 17044. A funeral service will be held at noon on Monday, Sept. 15, 2025, at the funeral home, with the Reverend Scott Decker officiating. Shirley will be laid to rest beside her daughter, Michelle, in St. Mark’s Lutheran Cemetery, Dormantown, PA.
