Melvin Eugene ‘Gene’ Barger

Melvin Eugene “Gene” Barger, 86, of Milroy, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2025, at his home.

He was born on July 10, 1939, in Milroy, to the late William Lloyd and Mary Edith (Herto) Barger. On Aug. 24, 1996, he married Betty J. “Chooker” (Snyder) Barger, who survives at their home.

Also surviving are children: Amy Jean Wray and husband Jeffrey, Mark Palm and wife Beth, Melvin Wayne Barger, Jodi Stuck, Kevin Peters and wife Kristy, Eugenia Tackett and husband Charles, Linda Williams and companion Steve Ward, Kathy Jones and husband John Wayne Jones; he was also survived by numerous grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews; a brother: James Barger and a sister, Florence.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael G. Boslett, and siblings: “Sonny” Barger, Kenneth Barger, Mona Rudy, Mae Wilson, Romaine, Joseph “Neil” Barger, and William G. “Gordon” Barger.

Earlier in life, he saw the United States as a truck driver and worked in maintenance at the YMCA.

He was a member of Blue Rock Sportsman’s Club.

He was a man of many talents, as he enjoyed carpentry, fishing, hunting, and painting. He also enjoyed tying his own fishing lures, loading his own shells for hunting, bird watching, watching wildlife, and being outdoors. In his earlier years he was featured in National Geographic.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2025, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Henderson-Bohn Funeral Home, 55 N. Main Street, Reedsville. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor B.G. Boswell officiating. Burial will be held at the Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown.
