James R. Symmerman Jr.

James R. Symmerman Jr., 66, of Thompsontown, peacefully passed away Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2025, at his home.

Born Jan. 31, 1959, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late James R. and Janet C. (McCulloch) Symmerman Sr.

He is survived by his wife, Christine W. (Swailes) Symmerman, also known as Jane Eileen Taylor, whom he married Feb. 14, 1992, two step-daughters, Wendy S. Hawse and husband, Jeff, and Sheri L. Bowersox and husband, Pernell, three grandchildren, Lauren Klingman, Brian L. Bowersox and fiancÈ, Abby, and Rachel L. Murdick and husband, Aiden, and two sisters, Brenda Rager and Julie Symmerman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Deborah E. Bender and her husband, Harmon “Hump” Bender.

Jim graduated from East Juniata High School.

He worked for Pannebaker Cabinets for 8 years and for Dayton Parts for over 33 years.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Newport, and the Four Seasons Senior Center, Mifflin.

He enjoyed playing cards, hunting, 4-wheeling, word searches and talking to friends.

His viewing will be on Monday, Sept. 8, beginning at 10 a.m., followed by his funeral service at 11 a.m. at Guss Funeral Home, Inc., Mifflintown, with Rev. Eric Petty, officiating. Interment will be in Locust Run Cemetery.
