Leah E. Young
Leah E. Young, 89, of Pleasant View Road, McVeytown, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Aug. 24, 2025 at Embassy of Woodland Park in Orbisonia.
Born Nov. 12, 1935, in McVeytown, she was a daughter of the late Andrew E. and Nancy Pauline (Miller) Harshbarger. Her husband, Russell T. “Spoke” Young, whom she married Sept. 11, 1953, preceded her in death on Dec. 29, 2004.
Also preceding her in death were: three sisters, Genevieve Boozel, Eleanor Bishop, Patsy Wike; and seven brothers, Alvin “Bud”, Clarence “Ducky”, Donald “Jake”, Warren “Butch”, Walter “Ike”, Ralph “Bink”, and George Harshbarger.
Surviving are: a son, Edward L. Young and wife, Carol Ann, of McVeytown; a daughter, Nina M. Tedeschi and husband, James, of Altoona; two brothers, Melvin “Ted” Harshbarger and wife, Ruth, of McVeytown, Charles L. Harshbarger and wife, Frances, of McVeytown; and three grandchildren, Adam Young, Angelica Nardelli, and Chelsi Tedeschi.
She was employed for many years as a quality control inspector at Fisher Electronics and several local small businesses, and later became known as “Grammy Young” when she was a Foster Grandparent with the Summit Early Learning Headstart Program.
Leah attended the Ryde United Methodist Church and the Pine Glen Church of the Brethren; and volunteered with the McVeytown Fire Co. Auxiliary.
She enjoyed baking, putting together puzzles with her family and friends, and playing bingo.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025 at Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market St., McVeytown, with Pastor Faith Anderson officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Mattawana.
A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
