James Joseph Jones

James Joseph Jones “Jim, J.J.”, 83, of Mifflintown, passed away at Geisinger Lewistown Hospital, Thursday, Aug. 7 with his family by his side.

Born Feb. 4, 1942 in Newport, Perry County, he was the son of the late Charles and Rose (Dunkelberger) Jones.

Jim is survived by his wife of 54 years, Deborah (Myers) Jones; sons, Scott Jones and wife, Mary, of Newport, Joseph Jones and wife, Susan, of Newport, and daughter Kristen Gaisior and husband, Michael, of Mifflintown; six grandchildren Anthony, Hannah, James, Bailey, Elizabeth, and Sylvi; five great grandchildren Westin, Wade, Katie, Rowan,and Ashton; siblings, Charlene Hodos, of Duncanon, and David Jones, of Carlisle.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Alyce Havercamp.

Jim was a graduate of Newport High School. He joined and served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Alaska. He retired from PPL after 30 years of service. Jim continued working delivering coal, which he did for 55 years. He was known as the “Coal man”.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Aug. 16 at 11 a.m. at the Millertown Community Center.
