Erma Jane Bubb (Bonson)

Erma Jane Bubb (Bonson), 90, of Colyer, was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2025.

Born on Dec. 31, 1934, in Reedsville, she was the daughter of the late John Reed and Dorothy Evelyn (Henry) Bonson. On Feb. 7, 1958, she married John I. Bubb, who preceded her in death in October of 2015.

Erma graduated from Armagh Brown High School. She worked as a bookkeeper for Penn State University until she retired in 1998, after more than 38 years of service.

Erma was a member of the Calvary Bible Church in Centre Hall, where she attended regularly and continued to assist and contribute in any way she was able, especially meals. She was a big fan of PSU sports, especially women’s basketball. She enjoyed tending to her flower gardens and loved the Great Grange Fair. The fair was her happy place, and she looked forward to scootering around it every year, even this year. Her last few days on this earth were spent at the fair, enjoying time and making memories with her family and friends. She liked to cook, and you never went hungry when she was around. Feeding mouths was feeding souls to her. She was a stubborn, strong willed, storytelling, amazing, loving, faithful woman whose smile was infectious. She will forever be loved, cherished, and missed by so many.

Erma is survived by her son, John I. Bubb, Jr. and his wife, Janell, of Spring Mills; three grandchildren, Mavis Fay Bubb and her husband, Shivesh Patel, of Pittsburgh, Dalton John Bubb and his significant other, Alexa McGovern, of Philipsburg, and Nicole Mendez and her husband, Ryne of Kansas City; seven great-grandchildren, Granger and Gatlin Bubb, Clayton and Piper Shawley, and Rylee, Kalee, and Kole Mendez; one brother, Clarence Bonson and his wife, Martha, of Reedsville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with her husband and parents, Erma was preceded in death by her brothers, James and Larry Bonson, and an infant sister, Sadie Pearl Bonson.

A viewing will be held for Erma on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Barbara Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Centre Hall. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2025, at 10 a.m. at the Calvary Bible Church in Centre Hall with Pastor Rick Gilbaugh officiating. She will be laid to rest privately beside her husband at the Zion Hill Cemetery in Colyer.
