Phyllis A. (Dillman) Sheaffer

Phyllis A. (Dillman) Sheaffer, 95, of Lewistown, passed peacefully into eternal life on July 18, 2025, at the Locust Grove Retirement Village in Mifflin.

Born Aug. 4, 1929, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of William M. and Mabel M. (Parson) Dillman and the ninth of 10 siblings.

In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her beloved sons, Stephan Merel Shingler and Michael Lee Sheaffer; and eight siblings, William Brown, Dolly Learn, Carl Brown, Mary “Teedie” Dillman, Donald Dillman, Harry Dillman, Hope Witt and George Clifford Dillman.

She is survived by her sister, Jayne Wray, of Greenwood Village; nieces and nephews, Teri English, Kathi Miller, Paula Wray, Dan Wray, Stacey Frye and Mark Dillman; great niece, Kimber Fisher and great nephew, Rick Miller, with whom she was particularly close; and many other family members.

Phyllis was a Presbyterian by faith.

Early in life, Phyllis was a lifeguard for the YMCA, and later worked in various jobs in the Lewistown area, including the Arrow Shirt Factory. Phyllis had a dynamic personality and made a huge mark on everyone she met. She was an animal lover and adopted many cats and dogs during her lifetime. She would often go without so that her pets received good care.

Phyllis was a dynamo in a tiny package. She loved picnics and family gatherings and could eat more than most other family members. She could be seen walking around Lewistown while shopping, running errands, or just getting some exercise well into her 90s.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff of Life Geisinger for the excellent care and attention given to Phyllis.

A graveside service will take place at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Lind Memorial Cemetery, with Pastor Connie Maclay officiating.

Arrangements are under the care of Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Phyllis’s memory may be made to: Rescue Our Furry Friends, PO Box 6, Lewistown PA 17044.
