Mabel Mae Stimely

Mabel Mae Stimely, 98, of McVeytown, rose into Jesus’s arms Monday, May 5, 2025, at Celebration Villa in Reedsville.
Born Oct. 6, 1926, in Reeds Gap, she was the daughter of the late Edgar S. and Mildred S. (Pennebaker) Hutchinson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Stimely Sr.; great-grandson, Zeb Franklin; a sister, Mary; brothers, James, Paul, John, Max, Glenn, Robert, Donald, and Larry; and a close friend, Lynn Dum.
She is survived by her children, Steven J. Stimely and wife, Karen, of McVeytown, Beverly M. Stimely, of Lewistown, Susan L. Schulties, of Lewes, Del., and son, John Stimely Jr. and wife, Sandra, of Lewistown; eleven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; a sister, Norma J. Jones; and her special fur baby, Remi.
Mabel grew up working on the family farm, driving tractors, and doing field work but she most liked to ride and break wild horses on bareback. She was a graduate of Juniata Joint High School, Class of 1946. After graduation she worked at a factory in Port Royal, then at the Arrow Shirt Factory, and lastly at Scotty’s Fashions. She was 74 when the factory closed and wasn’t ready to retire. She was a lifelong member of Centre Union Church and of the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union (ACTWU).
A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Friday, May 9, at Heller- Hoenstine Funeral Home, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m., with Pastor Shane Varner officiating. Interment will take place at Juniata Memorial Park.
