James M. ‘Jim’ Callahan Sr.

James M. “Jim” Callahan Sr., 82, formerly of Strodes Mills, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 surrounded by his family.
Born on March 19, 1943, in Lewistown, Jim was the beloved son of the late James E. Callahan and Elinor (Ort) Callahan. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Susan Snook and three daughters.
Jim was a 1960 graduate of Kishacoquillas High School and spent much of his career working hard and building connections in his community through his time at Standard Steel and later at Jake’s Golf Carts. But beyond his work, Jim was known for the way he lived–with strength, kindness, and a deep love for his family and the simple pleasures in life.
Jim is survived by the love of his life for the last 64 years, his wife, Kathleen O. (McClenahen) Callahan; his children, Jamie Lutz and husband, Brian, of Reedsville, James M. Callahan Jr., of Mifflintown, and Jennifer Nouse and husband, Kevin, of Mechanicsburg. He was a proud grandfather to Zachary D. Snook, Nathan Burd and wife, Crissy, Whitney Snook, Amber Espigh and husband, Justin, Taylor Romig and husband, Skylar, Quentin Callahan, Logan Nouse, and Emalee Nouse and a joyful great-grandfather to eight.
Jim’s heart belonged to his family, but also to the thrill of sprint car racing. He rarely missed a race and loved being part of the racing community. He also found peace in the outdoors, whether he was mowing the lawn, camping at the river, or simply enjoying a quiet day outside.
His family will remember him as a man of strength and loyalty–someone who always had a smile, a story, or a helping hand. He was a steady presence, and his love and legacy will live on in each of them.
Friends and family are welcome to his Celebration of Life that will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, June 12, 2025, at New Life Church in Burnham.
Arrangements are under the care of Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown.
