David J. Frey

David J. Frey, 76, of Lewistown, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at his home.

Born July 18, 1947, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late John C. and Marie H. (Oshell) Frey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Rosellen (Druckenmiller) Frey, who passed away Feb. 13, 2024; siblings, Bonnie Dillon, Marjory McMillion; brothers-in-law, Gordon Dillon, Herman McMillion, and Frank DeArment.

He is survived by; son, Brian D. Frey and Heidi L. King, of Lewistown; daughter, Amy F. and David Carrier, of Lynchburg, Va.; grandchildren, Zane D. and Olivia Frey, of Lewistown; Logan Spicher, of Lewistown; Leyla Gulomova, of Lynchburg, Va.; and great-granddaughters, Emmah, Halle, and Kenadee Frey; sister-in-law, Marilyn DeArment, of Lewistown; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Dave was known for his athleticism in baseball, football and basketball as well as his mechanical aptitude and love of cars and trains. He was a 1965 graduate of Chief Logan High School, and attended The Pennsylvania State University. He enjoyed spending his time with his family and beloved cocker spaniel, Casey, boating, swimming, tailgating, coaching, restoring antique cars and model trains.

He was self-employed for several years at D&D Automotive and Mechco and spent the majority of his career in public service. He worked at Lewistown Borough for 31 years and was the Borough Manager until his retirement in 2012. He was recognized by the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs in 2007 with the Thomas F. Chrostwaite Award for Service, and again in 2012 with the Distinguished Service Award. He was recognized in 2012 by the PA Governor for his engineering skill and contributions to many community projects such as the recycling program, Recreation Park expansion, Kish Creek River Walk and later, Fountain Square. In retirement, Dave remained active as a board member of Downtown Lewistown, Inc. (DLI) a charitable non-profit focused on community revitalization and economic development.

A receiving of friends will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday, May 13, 2024, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with Pastor Rich Fangmann officiating.

Interment will take place at Juniata Memorial Park.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Downtown Lewistown, Inc., Mifflin County Model Railroad Club or Mifflin County Library (children’s library renovation and enhancement project).
