Robert B. Sankey

Robert B. Sankey, 85, of McAlisterville, passed away at 8:50 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, at his residence.

Born on May 5, 1938, in McAlisterville, Juniata County, he is the son of the late Melvin and Ethel Mae (Benner) Sankey.

On June 30, 1962, he was married to his late wife, Dorothy R. (Naylor) Sankey, with whom he was blessed to share more than 58 years of marriage before her passing on Dec. 23, 2020.

He is survived by his children, Melody C. Huffman of Thompsontown, Kelly J. Tussey and her husband, Jerry of Winter Garden, FL, and Dennis R. Sankey and his wife, Jennifer of McAlisterville; nine grandchildren, Megan Huffman and her companion, Brandon Bieda, Kayla Huffman and her companion, Shane Hosler, Daniel Huffman and his wife, Lily, Nicholas Sankey and his companion, Brittany Bruce, Ryan Sankey, Brea Tussey, Jake Sankey and his fiance, Eleana Benner, Lily Sankey, and Leah Sankey; three great grandchildren, Jensin Hosler, Hadlee Hosler, Sophia Sankey, and one on the way; and his trusted canine companion, Bobo.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Anthony M. “Tony” Sankey on June 17, 2015; one brother, Paul Sankey; and one sister, Ruth Mae Sebastian.

Mr. Sankey was a 1956 graduate of East Juniata High School in Cocolamus and honorably served our country in the U.S. Army from 1958-61 as an Engineer.

He was employed and retired as a Pennsylvania Transportation Surveyor after 34 plus years of service to Penn Dot.

His memberships included, the NRA, the American Legion Post 298 and the Crawford-Brubaker VFW Post 5863, both of Mifflintown, and Camp Varnerosa.

Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to camp, and going to breakfast every morning at the Bread of Life Restaurant; however, his greatest joy came from time spent with his family, especially his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 30, 2023, from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville with Jodi L. Strawser officiating. Interment will follow in Goodwill Cemetery, McAlisterville, where full military burial honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council.

There will be a viewing from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral services at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 30 at the funeral home.
