Susan Jane Henry
Susan Jane Henry, 90, of Lewistown, Pa., passed away peacefully on Sept. 6, 2023, at her home in Greenwood Village. She was born on June 11, 1933, the third of five children, born to the late Walter and Margaret (Buchanan) Fisher.
Susan attended college at Millerville University and worked as a secretary in the administrative office of the Mifflin County School District and later the Girls Scouts of America until 1959.
Susan met her husband J. Richard Henry in 1955 when her family moved briefly to McCoysville, Pa. Susan and “Dick” were married on Nov. 29, 1958, and made their home near Granville, Pa where they were active community members for more than 60 years.
Susan was devout in her faith and a committed member of the Granville United Methodist Church. Her service there included membership in the Church Council, Financial Secretary and Sunday-School teacher.
Central to Susan’s life was a strong connection to her family and community. She could recount many stories and details of ancestral lore from the Fisher, Buchanan and Rittenhouse families with her characteristic wit and sense of humor.
Susan will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to helping those in need. Her light shined brightest through service to others and her loss will be deeply felt by those who loved her.
Susan’s loving presence will be missed by her family, especially her grandchildren who spent memorable weekend and summer visits in her care.
Susan is survived by her husband, J. Richard Henry of Lewistown; her son, Douglas Henry and wife Elizabeth Crisfield of Boalsburg, Pa; her daughter, Odessa (Henry) Fennen and husband John Fennen of Dover, Pa; along with four grandchildren, Ayden and Carter Fennen and Ames and Willa Henry. Susan is preceded in death by her son, John Patterson Henry who died September 27, 1975.
A visitation will be held from 10-11 am on Monday, September 11, 2023 at Granville United Methodist Church, 1346 N. River Road in Granville, Pa. The service will begin at 11 am with Pastor Kim Cartwright officiating. Burial will follow at the Pine Glen Brethren Cemetery off SR 103 North in Bratton Township.
