Phyllis M. Pellman

Phyllis M. Pellman, 86, of Mifflintown, passed away peacefully at 11:44 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2023, at the Geisinger Lewistown Hospital.

Born on July 19, 1937, in Bunkertown, Juniata County, she is a daughter of the late Palmer M. Shellenberger and Juniata J. (Schell) Shellenberger Querry.

On May 29, 1954, she married her late husband, Lester E. “Bushy” Pellman with whom she was blessed to share more than 58 years of marriage before his passing on May 23, 2013.

She is survived by her children, Deborah K. “Debbie” Teufel and her husband, Ron of Campbelltown, Gregory E. “Greg” Pellman and his wife, Twyla of McClure, Robert C. “Bob” Pellman and his wife, Monika of Arch Rock, and Anthony L. “Tony” Pellman and his wife, Teresa of McClure; nine grandchildren, Jeffrey D. Neikirk and his wife, Sue, Jennifer E. Addy and her husband, Andrew, Trevor E. Pellman and his companion, Jess, Ryan C. Pellman and his fiancÈ, Tobie Benner, Tiffany D. Pellman, Garett W. Pellman and his wife, Arika, Seth W. Pellman and his wife, Bryanna, Jaylinn M. Pellman and Bryce G. Pellman and his fiancÈ, Lizzy Miller; nineteen great grandchildren; siblings, Robert “Bob” Shellenberger and his wife, Gloria of Thompsontown, Palmer W. Shellenberger and his wife, Susan of Carlisle, and Kay I. Lukens and her husband, Harold of McAlisterville; one sister in law, Mary Ann Shellenberger of Carlisle; an adopted granddaughter, Silvia Lehmann, husband, Martin, and their children of Oberbuchsiten, Switzerland; and many generations of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one grandson, Zachary D. Pellman; three sisters, Marian E. Strawser, Helen I. Sellers, and Carol R. Waite; and two brothers, C. Richard “Dusty” Shellenberger and Danny D. Shellenberger.

Mrs. Pellman was a former member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church in Mifflintown for many years where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher, Kitchen Worker, Lay Leader, member of the church’s choir, SPRC Chair, and other various roles. In later life, she attended and was an active member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in McAlisterville where she also previously taught Sunday School and was involved as a helper with the church’s kitchen.

Throughout her life, Phyllis had worked outside the home in various employs including the Pa. State School-Selinsgrove Center; American Viscose Textile Mill in Lewistown; Brookline Manor in Mifflintown as a Nursing Aid; Cashier at Weis Markets in Mifflintown, and a clerk at the McAlisterville Shoe Shop; but to her credit, her greatest joy was as a Bus Driver with over 30 years of service beginning with Jim and Fleda Wilson and retiring in 2000 with Booker Busing, both of Mifflintown.

Her hobbies included cooking, canning, baking, word find puzzles, playing piano, and tending to her yard and garden, but most important to her was her devotion to her faith in God and the love she shared with her family.

She will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and sister who thoroughly enjoyed a good debate, reading her bible, and drinking a good cup of tea.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 29, 2023 from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville with Pastor Wes Stahl officiating. Interment will follow at Richfield Union Cemetery.

Per Mrs. Pellman’s wishes, there will be no public viewing; however, family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral services at 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
