Miriam E. Messerman
Miriam E. Messerman, 94, of Lewistown, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2023, at home.
Born May 19, 1929, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Nevin F. and Estella (Smith) Gutshall.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her sisters, Janice Dalbac, Ruth Johnson; half-sisters, Mildred Specht, Sara Showalter, Helen Parks, Sara Mae Moir, Mary Jane Miller, Julia Brosius and Myra Exler; half-brothers, Elwood Rarick, Ralph Gutshall, Sherwood Gutshall, Fred Gutshall, Irvin Gutshall, Wayne Gutshall.
She is survived by her children, Cheryl Bales, of VA, and Kenneth E. Messerman and wife, Brenda, of Lewistown; grandchildren, Kyle Messerman, Kristie Yates and husband, Travis, Kevin Messerman and wife, Morgan, Kimberly Bales and fiancÈ, Trey Peters, Kailie Bell and husband, Mike; great-grandchildren, Korbin, Knox, Kalli-Ann, Kaden, Kip, and Konner; sisters, Jean Noerr, of Lewistown, and Elaine Beers and husband, Robert, of Lititz.
She was a Lewistown High School graduate, Class of 1947.
Miriam was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church.
Earlier in life, she worked at the Lewistown Foundry and was the office manager at Derry Twp. Sewer Authority from 1974 to 2005.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved watching her Phillies and Penn State sports teams.
The family would like to give special thanks to UPMC Hospice and to Polly Seiler for their loving care.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 2, 2023, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m., with Rev. Stephanie Rupert officiating.
Interment will take place at Lind Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Miriam’s memory may be made to Grace United methodist Church or American Cancer Society.
