Lee E. Colyer

Lee E. Colyer, 93, of McAlisterville, passed away at 5:21 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2023, at Brookline Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Mifflintown.

Born on June 4, 1930, in Cocolamus, Juniata County, he is a son of the late Joseph Ira and Lillian Gertrude (Swartwood) Colyer. On June 17, 1950, he married his wife, Norma L. (Carvell) Colyer, with whom he was blessed to share more than 73 years of marriage before his passing. Mrs. Colyer would join her husband in eternity seven hours after his passing at 12:40 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 22, 2023.

He is survived by his children, Marilyn M. Maurer of Danville, Patricia S. Colyer of McAlisterville, Robin L. Colyer of Selinsgrove, Anita C. Graham and her husband, Stephen of Stormstown, and Julie A. Shirk and her husband, Steven of McAlisterville; three grandchildren, Jereomy Maurer and his wife, Anna, Cameron Colyer and his wife, Tanesha, and Kaylee Shirk; three great grandchildren, Michael Maurer, Anthony Maurer, and Rio Colyer; one sister, Dorothy Swab and her husband, Harvey of Mechanicsburg; and many generations of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Colyer; one son in law, Dennis Maurer; one daughter in law, Cindy Colyer; two grandchildren, Amy Maurer and Joseph Colyer; and three siblings, James Colyer, Lewis Colyer, and Ella Mae Varner.

Mr. Colyer was a 1948 graduate of Fayette High School in McAlisterville and was employed and retired with over 30 years of service to Conrail.

His memberships included St John’s United Methodist Church in McAlisterville where he served on the church’s cemetery board, Lost Creek Rod and Gun Club, and in earlier life belonged to the Lost Creek Trout Club and had played baseball with the local leagues.

Lee enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening, and was the go to guy for family and friends for any handyman projects.

Funeral Services for Mr. and Mrs. Colyer will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2023 at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 675 Red Bank Road, McAlisterville with Pastor Marlin Stahl officiating. Interment will follow in the St. John’s United Methodist Cemetery.

A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral services at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Church.
