Joan Marie (Henry) Chatman
Joan Marie (Henry) Chatman, 73, of Altoona, passed away Monday at UPMC Altoona. She was born in Lewistown, daughter of the late Roy Sr. and Peggy (Kensinger) Henry.
She married Bernard L. Chatman Sr. in 1969.
Surviving are, her husband of 54 years, two sons, Bernard Jr. and his wife, Aprila, in Connecticut, and Nathan and his wife, Cinnamon, of Hollidaysburg; six grandchildren; Madison, Martha, Elijah, Sidney, Bernard III and Aiyana; two sisters, Linda Zannino and Tammy McMullen; a brother, Tim Henry; many nieces, nephews and cousins; along with the many children whose lives she touched, showing her motherly love.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy Jr. and Jeffrey.
Joan graduated from Lewistown High School in 1968 and attended Mifflin County School of Nursing, where she became an LPN in 1982.
Joan retired as an LPN from Brookline Manor in Mifflintown.
She was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as an usher.
Joan enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, traveling, gardening and being a supportive wife, mother and Mimi.
Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, 2023, at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg; and from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023, at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where a funeral service will immediately follow at noon, with the Rev. Keith R. Moore officiating.
Private interment at Alto-Reste Park.
