James Richard Wheeler

James Richard Wheeler, 93, formerly of Burnham, passed away Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023, peacefully at his home.

Born Nov. 5, 1929, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late James A. and Ruth L. (Hunter) Wheeler.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, J. Arlene (Kreps) Wheeler, whom he married Aug. 7, 1949; and brothers, Wallace R. Wheeler, and Joseph W. Wheeler.

James is survived by, children, Beverly A. (Bob) Muckel, of Lewistown, Sharon L. (Bob) Depew, of Mifflintown, James L. (Verna) Wheeler, of VA., Carol A. (Kelly) Mater, of Lewistown; grandchildren, Tina L. Depew and fiancÈ, Bradley M. Sheaffer, Brian R. (Erin) Depew, Daniel L. (Brittany) Wheeler, Rachel D. (Daniel) Garrett, Jeanette R. (Matt) Kocan, and Alan R. (Emily) Mater; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Nathan, Parker, Paisley, Samantha, Audrey; and a sister, Ruth L. Nichols, of Lewistown; and sister-in-law, Margie Yoder Wheeler.

He was a Lewistown High School graduate, Class of 1947.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Mifflintown.

James served with the United States Army occupation force in Germany from 1952-1954.

He worked at Standard Steel in the wheel mill as an office clerk and retired in 1991, after 43 years of service.

A viewing will be held from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with a funeral service to follow at 1:30 p.m., with Pastor Sean McGill officiating.

Interment will take place at Juniata Memorial Park.
