Gary E. Narehood
								Gary Eugene Narehood, 73, of Beavertown, passed away at his home on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2023.
He was born Nov. 15, 1949, in Lewisburg, a son of the late Kenneth P. Narehood and Kathryn L. (Felker) Narehood. On April 27, 1969 he married Mary Louise Eisenhart. After 46 years, Mary preceded him in death on Jan. 10, 2016.
Together they had three children, Angela L. Narehood and her daughter Makyah Narehood-Allen, Pamela F. (Ben) Carper and her stepdaughters Bri and Maddy, Guy E. Narehood and his daughter Kaitlyn Narehood with her son Dylan Narehood.
Gary graduated from West Snyder High School class of 1967. He also attended Williamsport Area Community College, receiving an Associate’s Degree in Business Management. Through his high school and college years he worked part-time in the family business Super Service Garage, where upon graduating, he began working full-time. Started in the 1930s by his grandfather, selling International Harvester farm equipment and trucks. After his grandfather’s passing, his father dropped the farm business and started a trucking firm along with some school buses. Then, in 1988 went into the school bus business with many more buses. With his father passing away in 2002, Gary took over the business until 2018 when 69-year-old Gary said, “My grandfather died in this business, my father died in this business, I’m not going to die in this business” and sold the bus business to Weikel Bus of Selinsgrove and later sold the buildings to JJ Trucking.
Gary was always active in the Beavertown Rescue Hose Company since the age of 14 as a Junior Fireman, having held almost all different positions in the company, including Fire Chief and becoming one of the first EMTs in the company in 1979. Active in the community, coaching or assisting with Little League Baseball and AYSO Soccer. A member of Beaver Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday School and serving on the church council. Life member of the Snyder County Historical Society and belonging to the West Snyder Chamber of Commerce.
He joined the Middleburg Masonic Lodge Number 619 in 1973 and became Master of the Lodge in 1979. Serving as Representative in the Grand Lodge for several years and holding many other positions within the Lodge, including Committee for the 125th anniversary to be held in 2024. Gary would have been one of a few members to see the 75th, the 100th, and the 125th anniversaries.
Gary went on to become a District Deputy Grand Master of the 46th Masonic District in 1991. He served 7 years in the Grand Lodge as Aid to the Grand Master and on the publications committee. He was an original member of the Pennsylvania Lodge of Research and joined the Harrisburg Consistory in 1973, serving as Most Wise Master in the Harrisburg Chapter of Rose Croix in 2006 and 2019, being Coronated an Honorary Member of Supreme Council, 33∂, 2019. He joined the York side of Masonry, Milton Royal Arch Chapter No. 298 and served as Most Excellent High Priest, Vallerchamp Council No. 25, Mt. Hermon Commandery No. 85, Robert L. Rooke Council No. 343 of the Allied Masonic Degrees, Royal Order of Scotland, Orient Conclave Red Cross of Constantine, Pennsylvania York Rite College No. 11, along with being a blood and organ donor and joining the Loyal Order of the Moose, Middleburg Lodge No. 1229.
A viewing will be held on Friday, Sept. 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Beaver Lutheran Church, 18207 Route 522, Beavertown and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. on Saturday. A Masonic service will be held at 10:45 a.m. conducted by the Middleburg Masonic Lodge 619, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Matthew Schuster officiating.
Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Beavertown.
