Lester W. Stroup

Born on Jan. 24, 1942, in Evendale, Juniata County, he is the son of the late Warren E. and Elsie (Naylor) Stroup.

On Dec. 23, 1961, he married Geraldine “Gerry” (Leitzel) Stroup, with whom he was blessed to share over 58 years of marriage before her passing on Feb. 26, 2020.

He is survived by his children, Michael Stroup and his wife, Jeannie, of Richfield, Rodney Stroup and his wife, Donna, of Mount Pleasant Mills, and Matthew Stroup, and his wife Kathy, of Port Royal; brothers, Glenn Stroup and wife, Sandra and Richard Stroup, and wife, Luann, both of Richfield, six grandchildren, Joshua Stroup and his wife, Brigette, Alyssa Stroup, Christopher Scott, Madyson, Stroup, Anna Stroup, and Wyatt Stroup.

Mr. Stroup was a member of Brown’s United Methodist Church in McAlisterville.

From the mid 1960s to 1980, Lester was a self-employed truck driver throughout Pennsylvania and the east coast. In the spring of 1981, Lester and Gerry bought the Evendale Store and started the Evendale Tire Sales business. His family continues to own and operate Evendale Tire Sales to this day.

Lester enjoyed vacationing in Florida with family and friends, playing cards weekly with his Evendale neighbors and attending his grandchildren’s various musical and sporting events. He deeply cherished the time spent with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2023, at Brown’s United Methodist Church, 33762 Route 35 North, McAlisterville, with Pastor Ron Berrus officiating. Interment will follow at Browns United Methodist Cemetery in Cocolamus.

A viewing will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2023, at Browns United Methodist Church in McAlisterville.
