Edward H. Kauffman Sr.

Edward H. Kauffman Sr., 82, of Lewistown, passed into his Savior’s arms on Aug. 14, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his loving family and his wife, Darlene “Dar” Kauffman.

Born Nov. 12, 1940, in Pine Glen, he was a son of the late Samuel and Margaret (Renninger) Kauffman. On June 29, 1962, he married Darlene (Miller) Kauffman, and they were blessed to share 61 years together.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: daughter, Michele Mentzer and her husband, Crist; Michele’s children, Crist Mentzer Jr. and Darren Mentzer; son, Ed Kauffman Jr. and his wife, Carol; Ed’s children, Sammy Kauffman and wife, Karie, and Becky Johnson and husband, Adam; as well as twin great-granddaughters Lydia and Audrey Johnson, who were very special to him.

Also surviving are siblings, Mary Bankert, Don Kauffman, Alice Kauffman, Anita Kauffman, Jim Kauffman, John Kauffman, Tim Kauffman; and many special nieces and nephews to whom he will always be “Uncle Ed”.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Jean Kauffman, Debbie Molison, and infant sister, Carolyn Sue Kauffman; and two brothers, Sam Kauffman and Bill Kauffman.

Ed was formerly employed by J.M. Young general contractors and retired from Ford New Holland.

He was a member of the Mattawana Mennonite Church where he served faithfully in many roles including Sunday school teacher, youth leader, council member, and trustee.

Ed was an avid hunter and fisherman. He especially enjoyed his fishing trips to Canada and placing trail cameras on the ridge to watch God’s wildlife.

A talented, self-taught woodworker, he enjoyed creating many special things to share with family and friends. Ed’s greatest joy in life was his family; especially his grandchildren and twin great-granddaughters. We will miss him very much.

The family wishes to thank Geisinger Hospice Care for helping us allow Ed to pass peacefully at home; and especially his caregivers and nurses, Audrey, Audra, and the “Two Beckys.” We are so thankful for your kindness.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2023 at the Mattawana Mennonite Church with Pastor Darvin Donahey officiating.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church.

Private interment in Pleasant View Cemetery, Mattawana, will be held at the family’s convenience.
