James Neil Miller

James Neil Miller (Jim), 86, formerly of Lewistown died Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at the Holy Spirit hospital in Camp Hill. Prior to his death, he was a resident at the Church of God Home in Carlisle.

Born Sept. 16, 1936 in Lewistown, he was the son of the late James E. and Ora V. Miller of Yeagertown. He was known as “Son” or “Sonny” to many of his Yeagertown friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Carol Sue (Sue) Miller, who passed on Nov. 18, 2018.

He is survived by three sons, Michael J. Miller and wife, Clare of Landisburg, Gregory A. Miller and wife Diana of Carlisle, and Robert N. Miller and wife Jane of Springfield. Jim and Sue also had four dearly loved grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The grandchildren are Christa A. Zeigler, Brent J. Miller, Sean N. Miller, and Samantha M. Miller. The great-grandchildren are Aria G. Zeigler and Vance A. Zeigler.

Jim and Sue were high school sweethearts who both graduated from Chief Logan High School in 1954. Jim was a two-sport star in high school, playing on both the football and baseball teams. He was also on the wrestling team. He also attended Lycoming College after high school where he played football. He and Sue were longtime members of Holy Communion Lutheran Church in Yeagertown.

After high school, Jim held a few jobs. But the two most notable to him were his time working at the Burnham YMCA, and his years at the New Holland manufacturing plant in Belleville. His joy and passion during his working years were his children and the children he mentored during his time at the “Y”. He coached football and baseball teams which were always successful. But his greatest satisfaction was the relationships he built with the boys who grew up to be men of character. And the job at New Holland produced friendships that lasted long.

He also greatly enjoyed his time with friends at Walnut Acres hunting camp in McAlevy’s Fort in Huntingdon County.

He and Sue were wonderful parents and grandparents. Their legacy is the love of the three generations of children who follow them. They will both be greatly missed.

A visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at King-Barr Funeral Home at 120 Logan Street, Lewistown. The memorial service will begin at 11 am with Reverend Fred Bigelow officiating.
