Dale R. ‘Red’ Treaster
Dale R. “Red” Treaster, 97, of Milroy, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
He was born the son of Merle W. and Adda K. (Pecht) Treaster on Dec. 11, 1925. His wife, Ruby M. (Yeater) Treaster, passed away Sept. 13, 2005.
In addition to his parents and wife, Dale was preceded in death by his siblings, Merle “Bud” Treaster, Elizabeth “Betty” Rager, Jay Treaster, and Carl Treaster. He was the last of his immediate family.
His family loved him dearly. Surviving are: son, Dale L. Treaster and wife, Sandra, of Milroy; daughter, Zoann M. Wilson and husband, Andrew, of Reedsville; grandchildren, Angela Bonson and husband, Stephen, Eric Treaster and wife, Erin, and Rebecca Wilson; and five great-grandchildren, Courtney Bubb, Aaron Bubb, Sara Treaster, Connor Treaster, and Sophie Bonson.
Red was drafted during his senior year of high school in Milroy, 1944. He served in the Army Air Corps from Feb. 1944 to April 1946, in Guam. He was discharged as a sergeant and was given an honorary high school diploma following his return.
He retired in 1986 after 44 years of service from New Holland in Belleville as head of the data processing department.
Red was a member of White Memorial Church in Milroy; Free & Accepted Masons No. 376 in McVeytown; VFW in Belleville; and American Legion in Milroy.
“Pappy Red” was loved and known by many around Mifflin County, where he would frequently go for coffee and donuts and dinners. “You know, I am 97 years old!” He would tell everyone and often spoke of how proud he was of his family. He will be greatly missed.
A viewing will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., Monday, July 31, 2023, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, 108 First Ave., Burnham, followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m., with Rev. Dr. James Barnes officiating. Masonic rites will be offered at the Funeral Home by McVeytown F&AM No. 376.
Interment will take place at Birch Hill Cemetery, with military honors by VFW Post 7011, Lewistown.
