Sarah E. Yorks

Sarah E. Yorks, 92, formerly of Thompsontown, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at Brookline Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Mifflintown.

Born on September 23, 1930, in Fayette Twp., Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late John E. and Jennie M. (Reichenbach) Swartz. On December 28, 1946, she married her late husband, Blair E. Yorks, with whom she was blessed to share more than 67 years of marriage before his passing on March 8, 2014.

Surviving her are her children, John E. Yorks, Sr. and his wife Dorothy, of Mifflin, Blair M. Yorks, Sr. and his wife Russalee, of Mifflintown, Sara Maxine Mathieu, of Mifflintown; six grandchildren, John Yorks, Jr., Tina Kint, Melissa Kitting, Blair Yorks, Jr., Randy Zeigler and Angie Walters; twelve great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and many generations of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by seven siblings making her the last of her generation.

Sarah was a member of the McAlisterville United Methodist Church where, along with her husband, previously served as the church’s custodians.

She enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, and canning; however, her greatest joy came from time spent with her children and grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 5, 2023 from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville with Pastor Jennifer Heikes officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery, McAlisterville.

A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral services at 11:00 AM on Monday at the funeral home.
