Carol Ann O’Brien
Carol Ann O’Brien, 71, of Hilton Head, South Carolina, passed away surrounded by her loving family on June 14, 2015.
Daughter of the late Elizabeth and Robert Hackett, Carol’s life began on Jan. 22, 1944, in Manchester, Connecticut.
She married the love of her life, David Reese O’Brien, on June 20, 1963, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lewistown, where she was in the first graduating class of Sacred Heart Catholic Grade School.
She lived in Carmel, Indiana for 28 years where she raised a family and was a real estate broker for over 25 years before retiring to Hilton Head Island.
A parishioner of St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church, Carol volunteered her time and was a R.C.I.A sponsor. She enjoyed volunteering at the Arts Center of Costal Carolina, in the Emergency Department of Hilton Head Hospital and for Hospice Care of Low Country.
She was a member of the Hilton Head Choral Society and a Hospitality Ambassador for the Women’s Association of Hilton Head Island.
Carol will be forever loved and remembered by her husband, Dave, and her children: David O’Brien Jr, M.D. and wife, Karen; Heather O’Keefe and husband, Jim; Meghan Manning and husband, Tom; her 11 grandchildren, Reese, Charlie, Nicholas and Hannah O’Brien, Owen, Caroline, Finnegan and Reese O’Keefe and Lilly, Grace and Aidan Manning; her brothers, Wayne Hackett and wife, Bonnie, Blaine Hackett and wife, Nancy, the late John Hackett and wife, Helen; her sisters Susan Stout and husband, Sam, and Patti Vogt, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family will be receiving friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, at the The Island Funeral Home, 4 Cardinal Rd, Hilton Head Island. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lewistown, Saturday, June 20, 2015, at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in the memory of Carol to the Sacred Heart School “Angel Fund” 110 N. Dorcas St, Lewistown, PA 17044, which supports families in need of tuition assistance.
