Reformation recital slated Oct. 31

LEWISTOWN — The 31st annual Reformation Recital will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lewistown. The recital celebrates the 504th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation and pays tribute to Martin Luther nailing the 95 Theses to the Catholic church in Wittenburg. Last week I received an email from a good friend in upstate New York. He was asking for prayer for a friend who works at a university in the South. It would seem as though the “powers that be” in the university have set to work firing anyone who claims the name of Christ. I responded to my friend by saying I would pray, but I also noted that in 5-10 years, this will be the norm. The one who set wine and bread before Abram and the king of Sodom. Healing, hope and a place to call home

Despite our differences, and thank goodness for them, there’s also an incredible constant within all of us. We all need healing (of our brokenness), we all need hope (especially in the crazy times in which we live) and we all need a place to call home, a place to pull away from “normalcy,” whatever that is, and draw close to God. And there’s more, another constant we all have is we all tend to try to “fix” life our own way. Give me: “a couple more hours,” “a couple more dollars” or a “couple more whatever” and I’ll be Ok.
