Striving ceases when we see Him

Good morning, dear friends. This lovely summer morning, I’m sitting on my porch just watching and listening to the sweet sounds of nature. Birds are especially verbal in the early morning hours. Maybe some enlightenment about these amazing critters is necessary to share with you before we get to the topic at hand this morning. Hummers, as they are affectionately called, really do not hum at all. The sound you may be familiar with is the flapping of their wings, ...

Accountable to God, not man

“So they called them and charged them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John answered them, ‘Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge, for we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard’” (Acts 4:18-20). Beginning with the early church and continuing on to the present day, the gospel message has offended and angered multitudes of people. We should not be surprised. The bible tells us that we have a deadly condition known as sin. If no remedy is applied to this condition, we will surely die ...

Considering why religious leaders wanted to kill Jesus

You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. — Psalm 110:4 Last week we looked at the kingly line through which Jesus had come, the bloodline of David. He was known by people as the Son of David. Even today, when people curse, they often use the words, Son of David. This week we want to consider another reason the religious leaders wanted to kill Jesus. Jesus knew the scholars and the religious leaders of His day were well acquainted with the Messianic Psalm 110. When Jesus gave them a question they could not answer, He was referring to Psalm 110, as recorded in ...

By HOLLY MEYER The Associated Press Compared with the devil, angels carry more credence in America. They even get more credence than hell. More than astrology, reincarnation, and the belief that physical things can have spiritual energies. In fact, about 7 in 10 U.S. adults say they believe in angels, according to a new poll by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. The widespread acceptance of angels made sense to one angel expert because they are malleable to an array of worldviews. Angels mean different things to different people. For example, the idea of ...

Europe’s iconic churches struggling to accommodate worship, tourism

By GIOVANNA DELL’ORTO The Associated Press BARCELONA, Spain — A recent Saturday evening Mass at Sagrada Familia parish had all the hallmarks of a neighborhood worship service, from prayers for ill and deceased members to name-day wishes for two congregants in the pews. But it also featured security checks to get in and curious tourists peering down to take photos of the worshippers from above. The regular Mass is held in the crypt of modernist architect Antoni Gaudí’s masterpiece church, one of Europe’s most visited monuments. With tourism reaching or surpassing ...
