Bunkertown Brethren Church to expand its PreK days of service at Faith Preschool

McALISTERVILLE — Bunkertown Brethren Church has announced plans to expand its PreK days of service at Faith Preschool to three days per week. This change will occur beginning in the 2023-24 school year. Most preschools in the area currently offer three days per week. The church board felt it timely to increase services for families in the community. “Increasing days will enhance the delivery of a faith-based curriculum that integrates biblical truth and kindergarten readiness, both at the core of our goals at Faith Preschool,” Louise Hummel, chair of the preschool committee, ...

Trust in God’s mighty powers

Several years ago, our family had an experience that reminded us of the power of prayer. It was a Monday morning and I was trying to get off to work when we discovered that the water wasn’t working in our home. To some of you, this probably sounds like a minor problem, but we felt pretty fragile at the time. Our young family had just moved into a new home and had already dealt with several repair issues. The last thing we needed was another problem to deal with. And you don’t realize how much you rely upon water until you have to go without it. I won’t go into all the details ...

Asking God to revive our churches

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him – John 3:16 – XIII This week we will continue our study of the words, whoever believes in Him. Easter is preceded by a period of six weeks that begins on Ash Wednesday in Western churches and ends the Thursday before Easter Sunday. In Eastern churches only, Lent begins on the Monday of the seventh week before Easter and ends on the Friday nine days before Easter. During Lent, Christians participate in fasting, repentance, self-denial, spiritual discipline, and other preparations for Easter. According to the resource Learn Religions, the Lenten season was established to serve as a time for ...

Spiritual advisers offering final comfort in execution rooms

ST. LOUIS (AP) — For decades, Missouri executions played out in similar fashion: An inmate was strapped to a gurney in a drab room, alone except for the eyes of witnesses staring through thick, soundproof glass as unidentified executioners administered the lethal chemical from behind a cinderblock wall. But in November, convicted killer Kevin Johnson spent his final moments speaking softly with a pastor, praying, being assured of forgiveness. When Amber McLaughlin was executed in the same room weeks later, her pastor stroked her hand, providing comfort even as McLaughlin expressed ...
