Lewistown nears historic August rainfall total

LEWISTOWN — August has been unusually wet across the Juniata River Valley, but the heaviest rainfall has been concentrated in pockets, including around Lewistown, where precipitation is approaching levels rarely seen this time of year. A Lewistown climate station recorded 8.93 inches of precipitation through Sunday, according to preliminary data compiled by the Iowa Environmental Mesonet. Borough hires part-time administrator

LEWISTOWN — The Lewistown Borough Council approved hiring a part-time administrator for the borough on Monday in a special meeting. Councilman Scott Gutshall moved to approve the recommendation to hire Roxanna Ruble pending a background check, and Councilman Jim Steele seconded. Ruble will be paid $18 per hour for up to 30 hours a week. Latin Festival to kick off month of cultural celebrations

STATE COLLEGE — The Happy Valley Latin Festival will return to downtown State College next month, kicking off a month of events celebrating Hispanic and Latin American culture throughout the region.
