Tuscarora Intermediate Unit names Gilliland as next executive director
LEWISTOWN — The Tuscarora Intermediate Unit 11 Board of Directors has appointed Brett A. Gilliland as the organization’s next executive director, effective July 1.
Gilliland, a veteran educator with more than 20 years of experience in public education, will succeed the current executive director and lead the intermediate unit as it continues providing services and support to regional school districts and programs.
According to the announcement, board members expressed confidence in Gilliland’s leadership and his ability to guide the organization while maintaining its established mission and values. A transition period is planned over the coming months to ensure continuity for staff, programs and member districts.
Gilliland’s career includes prior service at TIU from 2002 to 2006 before taking on administrative roles in several school districts. He served as principal at the Southern Fulton School District, assistant superintendent at the Everett Area School District, and superintendent of the Mount Union Area School District.
He returned to TIU in 2018 and currently serves as director for nonpublic schools and pupil services. In that role, he has overseen Act 89 services, managed human resources, coordinated safety efforts, and helped develop the organization’s Partial Hospitalization Program.
Officials said Gilliland’s familiarity with TIU operations and his experience working with local districts position him to provide stability and continuity in the leadership role.
Gilliland will officially assume his duties on July 1.
