Perry County students showcased at Youth Art Day April 11

Perry County Council of the Arts will host its annual Youth Art Day at Greenwood Middle/High School in Millerstown on Saturday, April 11 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
MILLERSTOWN — Perry County Council of the Arts will host its annual Youth Art Day at Greenwood Middle/High School, 405 E. Sunbury St, Millerstown, on Saturday, April 11 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Youth Art Day is a showcase of visual art and literary talent from students or residents of Perry County in kindergarten through 12th grade. The event features a large student art exhibition, readings of award-winning literature, kids’ activities, artist demonstrations, a community mural painting activity and more. Event admission is $5 for adults, students and children get in free.
Judges evaluated 776 visual art entries and 75 literary entries, awarding students first, second and third place ribbons. An award ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. in the school’s auditorium with visual/literature place winners called to the stage for photos and recognition. Among those honored will be West Perry High School Senior Adam Metcalf for Best-in-Show in memory of Perry County artist Christopher Lyter. Metcalf will receive a $250 cash prize for his award-winning entry.
All submitted entries will be on display in the cafeteria during Youth Art Day. Attendees will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite piece of artwork to win the “People’s Choice” award and a $100 cash prize. A winner will be announced after Youth Art Day across social media and on PCCA’s website perrycountyarts.org.
The county-wide youth art show is open to the public and offers a day filled with activities for audiences of all ages including literary readings beginning at 11:30 a.m. in the library, all day Drop-In Art make and take crafts, pottery and wood turning demonstrations, a community mural painting activity, art supply sales, and food concessions including lunch items and snacks.
