‘The Music Man’ to take stage at Eisenhower Auditorium April 7
National tour brings classic musical to Penn State with focus on Marian Paroo
UNIVERSITY PARK — The national tour of The Music Man will stop at Penn State’s Eisenhower Auditorium on April 7, bringing the classic Broadway musical to Centre County audiences.
The performance is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Eisenhower Auditorium.
Produced by Big League Productions, the show follows fast-talking salesman Harold Hill as he convinces residents of River City, Iowa, to purchase instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band he has no intention of organizing. At the center of the story is Marian Paroo, the town librarian, who challenges Hill and ultimately reshapes the narrative.
Actress Elizabeth D’Aiuto, who plays Marian, said the character offers a broader message to audiences.
“It’s truly a life lesson to not read a book by its cover,” D’Aiuto said in an interview with the Center for the Performing Arts. “I hope people from older generations can see that I’m bringing something different to it, and the younger generation will be like, ‘Yes, I can really resonate.'”
Written by Meredith Willson, the six-time Tony Award-winning musical premiered in 1957 after nearly a decade in development. The production features well-known songs including “Seventy-Six Trombones,” “Ya Got Trouble” and “Till There Was You.”
Tickets range from $74 to $89 for adults, with discounted pricing available for students and those 18 and younger. Tickets can be purchased online, by phone or in person at the Arts Ticket Center.
American Sign Language interpretation and audio description services will be available. Attendees are encouraged to contact the Arts Ticket Center in advance to arrange accommodations.
