Star-Spangled Soirée to honor America’s 250th
MIFFLIN — A historic milestone deserves a historic celebration, and the Juniata River Valley Chamber of Commerce is preparing an evening designed to match the moment.
As the nation approaches the 250th anniversary of its founding, the chamber is inviting the community to step into the spirit of the colonial era with the Star-Spangled Soirée, an elegant event blending history, music and community pride.
The Soirée will be held at The Manor at Juniata Valley Winery, located at 19175 Route 35 in Mifflin, offering a setting that pairs historic charm with modern comfort. The semi-formal gathering is intended to feel both celebratory and reflective, honoring the nation’s past while bringing neighbors together in the present.
The event takes place Saturday, March 28, from 5:30 to 10 p.m., with registration now open. Tickets are $90 per person, and all guests will check in by name at the registration table the night of the event.
A colonial-
inspired
evening
The Soirée is designed as an immersive experience, transporting guests back to the founding days of the United States. Period re-enactors will help set the tone, offering a glimpse into the clothing, customs and atmosphere of the late 18th century. Authentic period music performed by Forbes Road Frolic will add to the ambiance, creating a soundtrack reminiscent of America’s earliest years.
The evening will also feature remarks from historian Tyler O. Gum, who will share insights into the region’s role in the nation’s story and the significance of the America250 milestone. His presentation will help frame the event as more than a celebration — it is also a moment to reflect on the community’s connection to the country’s founding.
Chamber representatives said the goal is to create an evening that honors the past while celebrating the present.
“America only turns 250 once,” Juniata River Valley Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Rhonda Kelley said. “We wanted to create something worthy of that moment — something that brings people together, honors our shared story and reminds us of the strength and resilience that built this country.”
Dinner, dancing and community spirit
Following the historical portion of the evening, the celebration will shift into a more modern rhythm with a DJ and dancing. Guests will enjoy a formal buffet dinner, followed by a dessert and coffee bar.
Wine from the Juniata Valley Winery and craft beer from Shy Bear Brewing in Lewistown will also be served and are included in the ticket price at no additional cost.
The Chamber expects strong interest in the event, noting that the combination of history, entertainment and an elegant venue makes the Soirée one of the signature local celebrations leading into the 250th anniversary year.
The Manor at Juniata Valley Winery provides a fitting backdrop for the evening. Its scenic setting and warm atmosphere complement the colonial theme while offering a comfortable space for guests to gather.
Honoring the past, strengthening the future
The Star-Spangled Soirée joins communities across the country in commemorating America 250 through events that celebrate local heritage and civic pride. Organizers say the anniversary is not only a chance to look back, but also an opportunity to look forward.
“Honoring 250 years of American independence is about more than remembering the past,” Kelley added. “It’s about recognizing the values that continue to guide us — community, perseverance and the belief that we are stronger when we come together.”
The Soirée is designed to embody those values, offering an evening that blends education, entertainment and shared celebration.
