Rothrock ceremony planned in McVeytown

McVEYTOWN — A ceremony honoring Dr. Joseph T. Rothrock, known as the “Father of Forestry” in Pennsylvania, will be held at 2 p.m. April 22 at the Rothrock Monument.

The event, hosted by the Juniata River Valley Visitors Bureau, is part of Rothrock Week, observed April 19-25, and coincides with Earth Day.

Officials said the ceremony will recognize Rothrock’s contributions to conservation and forestry in Pennsylvania. Representatives from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and Bureau of Forestry are expected to attend.

Rothrock served as the first commissioner of the Bureau of Forestry in 1895 and played a key role in shaping the state’s forest conservation practices.

The event is open to the public.
