Route 22 bridge work begins today in Juniata County
CLEARFIELD — A new round of bridge preservation work is getting underway today along Route 22 in Delaware and Walker townships, according to a PennDOT release issued on Saturday. The project focuses on improving ride quality and extending the life of three bridges in the two-mile work zone.
Drivers heading west between Thompsontown and Port Royal will see the first changes. One westbound lane is closing as crews start work on two bridges — one over Route 333 and Delaware Creek, and another over Route 2007 (Locust Run Road) and Locust Run. The speed limit through the area is dropping from 65 to 55 mph while construction is active.
PennDOT is reminding motorists to slow down, stay alert in work zones, avoid following construction vehicles into closed lanes, and buckle up.
A third bridge, also spanning Route 333 and Delaware Creek but on the eastbound side of Route 22, will be addressed later in the project. PennDOT plans to announce when that phase is ready to begin.
The work includes concrete deck and structural repairs, bridge painting, approach paving, drainage upgrades, new guide rail, line painting, and other improvements. Rylind Construction Company, Inc., of Muncy, is handling the $5.6 million project.
PennDOT expects the project to wrap up by mid-November, though the schedule may shift depending on weather and other factors.
