One dead, another injured in Snyder County crash

RICHFIELD — According to Pennsylvania State Police at Selinsgrove, two vehicles crashed on Route 35 near its intersection with Cherry Hill Road in West Perry Township at 5:50 a.m. Tuesday, leaving one woman dead and a man with severe injuries.

Meghann M. Yates, 42, of Mount Pleasant Mills, was traveling North on Route 35 between Evendale and Richfield when she drifted into the southbound lane in a 2024 Hyundai Tucson, hitting 38-year-old Richfield man Aaron Alderfer’s 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck, according to state police.

Police reported that neither driver wore a seatbelt at the time of the next to head-on collision causing Yates’ ejection through the windshield of her vehicle. The Snyder County Coroner pronounced Yates deceased on the scene.

Alderfer was extricated from the vehicle by emergency responders and was transported to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville via medical helicopter.

According to the police report, the Freemont Fire Department, Richfield Fire Department, Richfield Ambulance, DH&L Ambulance, Wellspan Ambulance, and the Snyder County Coroner assisted on scene.
