LEWISTOWN — The Lewistown Borough Council revised its 2026 budget on Monday in addition to addressing varied facility use requests and new business items.
The revised budget included increasing the Lewistown Police Department’s building budget from $80,000 to $100,000, hiring part-time help to mow borough property during the summer, and an adjustment to Community Development Block Grant funding.
The part-time mowing hire would receive $15 per hour for 30 hours per week, with the potential for 16 weeks of work, totaling about $7,200 for the borough.
In the absence of council members Larry Searer and Lisa Knudson, the borough council approved the revised 2025 budget in a 4-1 roll call vote with Council President Matthew Moore in opposition. They also approved the previously stated expenditures in voice votes.
Earlier in the meeting, council member Jim Steele led a prayer in memory of former council member Steve Knudson. Steele acknowledged Steve’s service and dedication to the council, the Lewistown Police Department and the Mifflin County Regional Police Department.
Steele added that he, Steve and Lisa shared a faith in the Lord and grew closer in their worship at Bethel A.M.E. Church in Lewistown.
“Dear Heavenly Father, thank you today for this time of fellowship in remembering Steve Knudson,” Steele said.
Council later moved on new business items on the agenda.
