It’s prom season — for teens and adults

Whether it’s your first prom or first as an adult, prom season is in the air — with a prom gown giveaway and a “Light Up the Night” adult prom fundraiser on tap this weekend.

The First United Methodist Church, located at 10 W. Specht St., McClure, will host a prom gown giveaway, starting today from 5 to 8 p.m. It continues 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. No appointments are needed. Got a question? Call or text (717) 953-5573.

Deck the Downtown is holding “Light Up the Night,” an adult prom fundraiser from 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday at Hungry Run Distillery, 10 Ridens Road, Lewistown.

Proceeds will benefit decorating efforts downtown. This is an age 21-plus formal event and tickets must be purchased in advance. Tickets are $50 per person and includes a charcuterie grazing table by AmazinGraze, various desserts, photo booth, professional photos by Ashlyn Leigh Photography, beautiful photo backdrop by Binz balloons and music by DJ Todd Goss. There will be a cash bar and food truck available which are not included in the ticket price. Spots are limited, and ticket information is available by finding Deck the Downtown’s Facebook page.

Benefit events

• Spaghetti dinner benefit fundraiser, 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, hosted by McVeytown Lodge No. 376 of Free and Accepted Masons and Granville United Methodist Church, 1341 N. River Road, Granville. Eat in or take out. The cost is $10 per person and $5 for ages 6 and under. Menu includes spaghetti with meatballs, rolls, salad, drinks and a whoopie pie. Proceeds benefit the Strodes Mills Elementary Power PAK lunch program.

• Benefit scotch doubles pool tournament for Scott Hasson, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Brooklyn Social Room, 218 S. Main St., Lewistown. Hasson is bass player for local band Mindspell and needs help with medical bills, travel expenses and loss of work. Doors open at 11 a.m. and the tournament begins at 1 p.m. The entry fee is $40 per team. Donations will also be accepted.

Food for sale

• All-you-can-eat breakfast, 6 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Bannerville Fire Co., 7547 Stage Road, McClure. The menu includes made-to-order eggs, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, ham, dry beef gravy, sausage gravy, French toast, pancakes, home fries and toast. The cost is $14 for adults, $7 for ages 5 to 12 and free for ages under 5. For more information, call (570) 658-6477.

• Soup and bake sale, 8 a.m. to noon (or until sold out) Saturday, hosted by Helping Hands of Juniata County, 4277 William Penn Highway, Mifflintown. The menu includes chicken corn, chicken noodle, ham & bean, stuffed pepper and vegetable beef. Plus delicious baked treats.

• Turkey dinner, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Tuscarora Grange, Route 75 South, East Waterford. The meal includes turkey, stuffing, potatoes, veggies, drink and dessert. Dine in or grab take-out. The cost is $14 for adults and $7 for ages under 12.

Winter Wonderland Concert

Support Harper’s Warriors by attending the Winter Wonderland Concert on Saturday from 1:30 to 5 p.m. at CJEMS, 47 CJEMS Lane in Mifflintown. Doors open at 1:30 p.m., with the concert beginning at 2 p.m. Enjoy incredible live music while supporting an amazing cause at this family-friendly event filled with talent, community and heart. Concessions available. Desserts by Natalies Sweet Lounge. The cost is $5 per person, minimum donation. Performances by: Kim Hart, Carson Miller with Jason Foster, Make Mine Country Band, Ed Varner, Payton Kerstetter, Chris Ruble, Bella Donna and -Country Legend AKA The Cash Crew.
