Library closed for Presidents’ Day
LEWISTOWN — All branches of the Mifflin County Library will be closed on Monday, Feb. 16 for Presidents’ Day. Normal operating hours will resume on Tuesday, Feb. 17. Hours and closings can be found on the library website at www.mifflincountylibrary.org. Bookdrops are open 24/7.
Applications accepted for nonprofit funding
LEWISTOWN — The United Way of Mifflin-Juniata is opening up its funding process, allowing qualifying nonprofit human service organizations in the two county region to apply for funding. In order to qualify for funding, the applying agency must be a 501(c)3 as well as offer a program that makes an impact in the United Way’s four impact areas: Healthy Community, Youth Opportunity, Financial Security, Community Resiliency.
To be eligible for funding, nonprofit human service agencies must have tax exempt status, be in compliance with all government laws regulating nonprofit agencies and must provide direct human services to Mifflin and Juniata County residents addressing needs identified in the 2016 Mifflin Juniata Human Services Needs Assessment.

Build brain-healthy habits at Penn State Extension webinar
UNIVERSITY PARK — Individuals of any age who are seeking information on ways to age well and protect their memory and thinking as they get older can attend a Penn State Extension webinar, “Building Brain-Healthy Habits,” March 3 from noon to 1 p.m.
The program, developed by the Alzheimer’s Association, offers research-backed guidance on brain health and the importance of taking action to protect the brain at every age. Participants can gain practical, evidence-informed strategies to support cognitive well-being across the lifespan and learn how everyday choices can play a meaningful role in maintaining brain health.
Penn State Extension offers this event at no charge. Registration is required to receive the link to access the webinar. A link to the recorded webinar will be emailed to registrants within 10 business days after the live event. The recording will be accessible for six months from the event start.

Geisinger to offer free blood pressure screenings
LEWISTOWN — Geisinger will host a free community blood pressure screening and heart health awareness event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Geisinger School of Nursing in Lewistown in recognition of American Heart Month.
Attendees will receive heart-themed giveaways, including pill organizers and magnets, while supplies last. Refreshments will be available.
The event is free and open to the public. No appointment is required.
