Changes in medical assistance transportation are discussed

MIFFLINTOWN — A closer look reveals the 2025-26 Pennsylvania state budget indicates more money will be spent on medical assistance transportation.

With the state numbers going up 5.9%, Director of Mifflin Juniata Human Services Melissa Stewart realizes that funding changes might be necessary. On Tuesday, Stewart sought the Juniata County Commissioners’ approval for the updated Medical Assistance Transportation Program Grant Agreement & Assurance of Compliance.

Stewart says these were simple changes in allocations for the Medical Assistance Transportation Program.

According to Stewart, the 2024-25 final allocation for the Medical Assistance Transportation Program, based on usage, is now $110,521, down from the previously reported $111,207.

The Medical Assistance Transportation Program’s initial allocation for 2025-26 was originally reported to be $117,571 but is now reported at $131,184.

“Call-A-Ride Services utilizes this money to provide rides to eligible Medical Assistance recipients,” added Stewart.

The program provides medical transportation services to any approved medical facility, physician’s office, dentist, hospital, clinic, or pharmacy for the purpose of medical evaluation, treatment, or the purchase of prescription drugs.
