Mifflin County to host America250PA kick off

LEWISTOWN — A patriotic touch of red, white and blue will greet visitors at the Mifflin County Courthouse later this week as the county joins Pennsylvania’s celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.

With a spirited kickoff planned for Thursday, the America250PA County Event will welcome residents into one of the community’s most historic spaces for a morning filled with hometown warmth and patriotic spirit.

The Juniata River Valley Visitors Bureau is pleased to announce that Mifflin County will help launch Pennsylvania’s commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary by hosting the official America250PA County Kick-Off Event in the courthouse lobby on Third Street in Lewistown.

This special event marks the beginning of a multi-year celebration leading up to the nation’s Semiquincentennial in 2026.

Other counties around the Juniata River Valley will hold similar events, including Juniata County which is also scheduled for Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Juniata County Courthouse, located at 1 N. Main St., Mifflintown.

Neighboring Huntingdon, Perry and Snyder counties each held their kickoff celebrations last week.

America250PA is partnering with counties across the Commonwealth to present rally-style gatherings that actively engage residents, spotlight the significance of this historic milestone, and highlight opportunities for participation throughout the year.

The Mifflin County event will begin at 10 a.m. and feature remarks from invited speakers, including the Mifflin County Commissioners, Sen. Judy Ward, State Rep. Kerry Benninghoff, statewide officials and members of America250PA leadership.

“We are honored to assist America250PA with logistics for the statewide county events,” said Jenny Landis, executive director of the Juniata River Valley Visitors Bureau and the Mifflin County representative for America250PA.

“These gatherings are meant to bring communities inside their historic courthouses to reflect on our shared past and look ahead to the exciting opportunities that the Semiquincentennial will bring to Pennsylvania,” Landis added.

Mifflin County will be celebrating America’s 250th anniversary throughout 2026 with a variety of events taking place in communities across the county. From patriotic celebrations and historical programs to family-friendly gatherings and special commemorations, residents and visitors alike will have numerous opportunities to participate in this once-in-a-generation milestone.

The kickoff event at the courthouse will serve as the first of many moments that bring the community together to honor local history and join the statewide celebration — a chance for residents to reflect on the county’s heritage while looking ahead to the future with pride.
