GRANVILLE — Supervisors honored former Granville Township Chief of Police Martin Bubb, Jr. for 32 years of service at their Monday meeting in addition to other business.

John Breneman, a Lewistown constituent outreach specialist for state Sen. Judy Ward, R-Blair, presented Bubb with a certificate recognizing his dedicated service following his retirement in December 2025.

“Chief Martin Bubb began his career with the Granville Township Police Department on Aug. 16, 1993, as a patrol officer. He was later promoted to sergeant before becoming chief in January 2024, the position for which he is retiring,” said Breneman.

“In the finest spirit of public service, he demonstrated exemplary knowledge, ability and integrity in carrying out his many responsibilities and earned deep respect and gratitude for his devotion.”

Bubb went on to thank both the current and former board members who appointed him.

“I want to thank the people that took me under their wing and showed me the way and of course, the guys I work with, my family and all the first responders in the room and not present.”

Parking problem

Also during the meeting, Junction Fire Co. Chief Scott Beers spoke during public comment about a house fire on Henrietta Street.

According to Beers, the parking on that street made it nearly impossible for his truck and the ambulance to reach their destination.

Beers suggested parking on each end of the street; if not, the entire street becomes a no-parking zone.

Mary Herto, township manager, told Beers that Granville Township is awaiting responses from a property owner and the Juniata Valley Railroad regarding the installation of no-parking signs.

Banners for veterans

The board of supervisors also discussed installing banners to honor local veterans.

Granville resident Charlie Watts continues to work to find the best flags suitable for the installation.

Granville Township supervisors approved Watts’ idea to install the banners on telephone poles about a year ago.

Supervisors chose to order banners from Military Tribute Banners.

Watts also suggested that flags go up only right before Memorial Day and come down after Veterans Day, allowing them to last as long as possible and avoid being in the snow and sleet during the winter months.

The township will now determine which poles can be used to hold the banners to avoid distractions to drivers in the area.

Supervisors will determine the cost for and order the banners after data collection to determine how many veterans are in the area.

“The company offers a deal the more flags that are purchased,” said Herto.

Supervisors are requesting a headcount of the number of veterans residing in Granville. Residents who are veterans or know a veteran who lives in the township, should call the township office at (717) 242-2334.

Other news

Supervisors approved department reports for December 2025, including the account summary, road report, police report, code officer report and the sewer department as well as the overtime report for November.

Supervisors also approved the Junction Fire Co. request to use $30,000 from their equipment fund.

Herto stated that this is the fire company’s annual request to use this money from their equipment dollars to put toward a loan payment.

Starting at $2.99/week.
