LEWISTOWN — A family of three was displaced by a house fire Friday afternoon on West Fifth Street.
The Lewistown Fire Department, including Heritage Fire Co. and City Hook & Ladder, was dispatched at 1:17 p.m. to a reported house fire at 409 W. Fifth St., according to District Chief Patrick Shoop Jr.
Upon arrival, firefighters reported smoke coming from the rear of the single-family home. Crews quickly extinguished the fire by about 1:25 p.m. Shoop said the fire originated in the kitchen and was contained to that area.
No one was home at the time of the fire, and the family’s two dogs were unharmed.
The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced family.

Firefighters were assisted at the scene by Chief Logan Fire Co., Fame EMS and local fire police. West Fourth Street was closed from Bratton Avenue to Pennsylvania Avenue, and West Fifth Street was closed from Franklin Avenue to Pennsylvania Avenue until about 2 p.m.
