Eight counties respond to Walker Township fire
Cold, rekindles extend firefight at Treen Box and Pallet Co.
THOMPSONTOWN — Firefighters from Thompsontown Fire Co. were on scene for more than 17 hours after a fire broke out Tuesday evening at Treen Box and Pallet Company on Center Road in Walker Township.
According to Juniata County 911 Center Director Adam Waite, at least 200 firefighters responded, operating 67 pieces of apparatus from 30 fire companies across eight counties. Crews also covered stations left without protection due to companies responding to the blaze.
Waite said the initial 911 call was received at 7:12 p.m. Tuesday. The fire rekindled twice — at approximately 3:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Wednesday — requiring firefighters to return to the scene. Units were finally cleared and available around noon Wednesday.
Attempts to reach a representative from Treen Box and Pallet Co. were unsuccessful.
Thompsontown Deputy Chief Jeff Miller said the business was closed at the time the fire was discovered, and fire officials believe no one was inside the facility. No injuries were reported. Miller said the Pennsylvania State Fire Marshal from the Lewistown barracks was requested to investigate the cause of the fire.
